About Hospitality & Catering
The hospitality and catering industry spans restaurants, hotels, cafés, pubs, and contract caterers. And of course schools, colleges, hospitals and large businesses need canteens and catering staff, too.
You’ll choose one of seven specialisations. On the Food and Drink Service pathway, you’ll learn to serve customers, as a waiter or behind the bar. Professional Cookery is for those who want to train as chefs, while Food Processing and Cooking deals with large-scale catering for the NHS, Armed Forces, schools and so on.
Alternatively, you could take the Front Office pathway and work in a hotel reception area; learn to run a B&B or youth hostel (Hospitality Services); or keep a hotel crisp and clean (Housekeeping).
On the Advanced Apprenticeship, there’s Professional Cookery, which could lead to a job as head chef or restaurant manager, or Hospitality Supervision.
Assessment
Assessment is in the workplace and takes place whilst the apprentice performs their normal work duties. This shows that they are acquiring the skills and knowledge to effectively carry out the job.
