What does the course consist of?

 

The ABC Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Youth Work is made up of four mandatory units and two of the optional units below.

 

Mandatory Units

 

  • Enable young people to explore and develop their values and self respect
  • Enable young people to work effectively in groups
  • Enable young people to use their learning to enhance their future development
  • Mange your work and create effective working relationships

Option A Units – Choice of TWO excluding any gained at Level 2

 

  • Enable young people to access and use information, and make decisions
  • Enable young people to be active citizens
  • Support young people in tackling problems and taking action
  • Advocate on behalf of young people
  • Enable young people to develop awareness of their self-identity and being
  • Work with young people to design and develop sessions
  • Work with young people to manage resources for events, activities or projects
  • Review progress and evaluate opportunities with young people

Option B Units – Choice of TWO Units

 

  • Investigate needs and provision for young people and promote youth work opportunities
  • Identify relationships with other organisations and individuals
  • Build and maintain partnership work
  • Provide information to aid policy formation, and the improvement of practices and provision
  • Develop teams and individuals to enhance the quality of youth work
  • Promote a culture of health and safety

How long is the course?

Level 3 learners are expected to complete within 9-12 months. However, progress is determined by the individual and it is possible to achieve in less time.

 

What does the course lead to?

The course leads to the achievement of a nationally recognised qualification. Level 3 is a recognised qualification for entry to higher education and is also a requirement for NVQ Assessors in Youth Work, so this could be a possible career aim.
