About Carpentry & Joinery
Carpenters and joiners are required to build and install a wide range of wood products.
Site carpentry deals with the installation of floors, doors, windows and roofs on both domestic and commercial buildings. Bench joinery is the production of specialist items such as counters, bespoke kitchens, special windows and staircases.
There are other areas of specialisation, such as shopfitting and formworking (the creation of temporary moulds for large concrete structures). Many carpenters train in one area and use their skills to develop into the more specialised areas later.
Assessment
Assessment is in the workplace and takes place whilst the apprentice performs their normal work duties. This shows that they are acquiring the skills and knowledge to effectively carry out the job.
