Andrew Kelly
Unique LPG based at Caldershaw Business Centre on Ings Lane Rochdale commenced trading in 2010, trade quickly increased. Gary Coleman the proprietor recognised the need to recruit an employee and was keen to get an Apprentice on board, he felt that recruiting a young person would allow him to train the individual to his standards and the companies’ way of doing things and learn certain aspects of the job from scratch. Gary contacted Orchard Training Solutions the employer engagement arm of Hopwood Hall College, following organisational needs analysis which confirmed the need for an Apprentice, Orchard then assisted with the recruitment process.

Andrew had already expressed an interest to do an apprenticeship and Orchard Training sent his CV to Unique, together with other CVs from other candidate’s, he was shortlisted for an interview and following a successful work trial was offered a permanent position.

Orchard then arranged for Andrew to continue his learning at Hopwood Hall College and arranged a day release college attendance which he commenced in January 2011.The Apprenticeship programme  offers a flexible approach towards enrolment on to the course.

Andrew feels he has really developed in his time at Unique, he is learning new things every day, this he explained makes him feel better in himself, his self-esteem has increased, he is more confident and really enjoying his work.

The future is looking good for both Andrew and Unique, Gary is supportive of Andrew achieving the LPGA certificate, this is a specialised course resulting in him being accredited to complete the LPG fuel conversions without assistance and so will provide opportunity to increase business and who knows Gary said “we will then look at recruiting another Apprentice!”
