Apprentice on Road to Success

The Summer School programme, funded through Greater Manchester Challenge, was delivered collaboratively by seven providers including Orchard Training Solutions, the employer engagement arm of Hopwood Hall College.

The Summer School programme covered areas such as personal presentation, interview preparation, effective CVs, application form completion, employment rights and responsibility, advanced interview techniques, personal confidence, team working, first aid and intensive work tasters.

In total, 25 Rochdale young people took part in the Summer School which has been a great success; after only 3 weeks, 6 of the group have secured employment and will start their Apprenticeships soon. Other members of the group sent off numerous applications and CVs and have interviews lined up over the coming weeks.

One of the students to secure a coveted apprenticeship is Jack Kesterton who is 16 years old and lives in Norden, Rochdale; following a successful work trial he has been offered a position at Green Brothers Ltd, in Littleborough, a Land Rover repair specialist. Jack will have the opportunity to do a Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship involving a day release college attendance at Hopwood Hall College arranged through Orchard Training Solutions.

The national press has been filled with stories recently about high demand for some apprenticeships amongst young people (BT had 24,000 applications for just over 200 places), so the College is delighted to help these local youngsters to secure apprenticeships through this programme.

Hopwood Hall College offers up to 4,500 pounds to employ apprentices!

Training@Hopwood (The employer engagement arm of Hopwood Hall College) is currently offering employers incentives of £1,500 to recruit apprentices into existing teams. Employers can recruit up to 3 new apprentices under the incentive scheme.

The offer is available to employers with fewer than 250 employees, who have not recruited an apprentice in the previous three years. The apprentice must be between 16-24 years of age.

The aim from government is to get young people back into work, whilst supporting them in developing the skills they require for a successful career. The apprenticeship route via Hopwood Hall College offers an excellent boost to employers, improving the bottom line, competitiveness and overall cost effectiveness.

Apprentices can be new or existing employees between 16-64 years of age. The incentive is only on offer for those aged 16-24. We have more than 200 different apprenticeships available, including accounting, team leading, management and butchery.
