Heywood Residents Celebrate their Achievements in Style
Skills 4 U is a New Deal for Communities funded project delivered in partnership with Hopwood Hall College, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale and RMBCs Work Based Community Learning Service. The project is a unique partnership of training providers and community engagement tailored to meet the individual needs of the local community.
Skills 4 U pulled out all the stops to ensure everybody had a night to remember; learners and their guests were treated to a special and stunning performance by Maxine Molin, an extremely talented harpist who played whilst guests arrived and then performed later on throughout the evening meal. Everybody commented on how beautifully Maxine played the harp and it was a real elegant touch to a very special ceremony.
Andy Hargreaves, Programme Leader for Marketing and Communications, compered throughout the evening and we had speeches from special guests including David Yates (former Heywood Community High School Head Teacher), Vicky Devonport (Chief Executive of NDC) and Ellen Wintle Yates (Resident Director of the NDC).
After the speeches, learners were invited onto the stage individually to collect their certificate of achievement and pose for a photograph with one of the guests. They received huge applause from their own guests and the other members of the audience as their special achievements were recognised.
Once the awards had been presented, a gourmet buffet was served and enjoyed by everybody. All guests were invited to have a professional photograph taken with their family before being treated to a wonderful performance by The Rumble Fat Band.
The evening was a huge success and received high praise from everybody who attended.
Vicky Devonport (Chief Executive of the NDC) commented “Occasions like this really make me stop and think about what our projects are achieving in Heywood and the changes we are seeing in individual residents… there was a real buzz in the air last night”
The Skills 4 U staff were very proud to see the achievements of those who have accessed the project. The Project’s Co-ordinator, Mina Ahmed said “The evening was really special and showcased the achievements that people have made. We are very proud of our learners and we know that they will go on to be very successful.”
